P90X Adventures

Okay, so here's the deal.
Because of certain circumstances, my boyfriend (and husband to be) and I are doing the long distance thing at the moment. That being said, this past summer I decided it was high time to get rid of those extra "love pounds" I had gained while waiting for our next reunion. I did a bit of research and found that a lot of people had sucess with the workout regimen P90X.

For p90x to be effective, two things need to happen:
1, you need to have a workout partner equally as motivated as you, and
2, you need to be able to commit to working your ass off (literally, i guess) for the entire 90 day duration.

I'm to the point where my skinny jeans just don't fit anymore and that really cute blazer I used to wear to work doesn't button up all the way. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not morbedly obese or have health issues, I just used to be hot and now I feel like i'm tipping the mediocre scales.

So the past summer, after a bit of online research, I purchased the program and felt confident that I was on my way back to a tight ass, toned thighs, and rock hard (yet feminine) abs. I faithfully completed each approximately one hour session, six days a week, and somewhat improved my eating habits. Things were going great. After the first month I started seeing results and could feel the endorphans rush through my body after each work out. About three quarters of the way through the 90 days, life started to get in the way. Suddenly, I found that the time I had devoted to each day was being consumed with other seemingly more important goings-on and I was missing workouts with promises of "going harder" the next day. Oh boy, that DID NOT happen. With about three weeks left in the course, the workouts came to an abrupt stop.

No rhyme, no reason. Just stopped.

So here's my dilema. I'm considering starting the program again, but have ZERO motivation other than not wanting to feel like a fatty. The cardio was fun, the hour and a half of yoga was fantastic, and oh god, the sixteen minute "ab ripper" is exactly what it sounds like. I loved every minute of it, yet can't seem to find the stamina or motivation to get the party started again.

I'm not entirely sure if I'll give P90X another go or if I'll try and find something else that works, either way, something has to be done.

We'll see how it goes.

  2. I totally want to do p90x as well. My roommate's dad has been doing it for the past 7 weeks and has lost 30 lbs so far. I only want to do it because I have no muscle (supposedly 7% bodyfat). Just get started on it. I have faith if you made it halfway through once, you can finish it this time.

  3. Working out is good for you.
Luckily I have a workout partner who has been doing this sort of thing since he was in his teens. It's great motivation for the both of us. Good luck on staying fit!

  4. P90x is a temporary solution. Unless you change your diet and lifestyle to include P90X for the rest of your life, the body you earned will dissipate.

  5. Just push yourself to do it for a few days and once you get the momentum going, it should keep going.

    Good luck!

  6. To expand on what DongAlong mentioned, P90X, and other workouts like it, are something that would allow otherwise lazy people to enjoy the structure and control of a workout and show them the results that are possible - something that may encourage them to continue on even after the 90 days, or whatever's prescribed, and change their lifestyles.

I believe you can do it, though. :)

  9. I am not realy into programs... Try to convince yourself that eating and taste is just temporary feeling.. I like to eat tasty food, but if it is unhealthy I would rather pick a little less tasty but still good, I normaly dont full up because I once read that stomack needs 20minutes to realise when it is full.. So eating slowly and small quantities is easy and it brings alot of positive effects... As far as workout is, I usualy workout wheen I feel so and I dont overdo it so I dont have restistance to do it next time (generaly I feel better and more relaxed after workout).. But don't try to do everything overnight :)

  10. yeah, diets in general are temporary solutions ... if you are successfull in a diet but don't change your lifestyle afterwards, you will gain weight eventually, cause apparently this lifestyle has caused your extra weight... just eat less, move more and don't think about these things too often, enjoy life :)
